Obituary

Robert L. Nelams was born on February 8, 1933, and passed away on January 18, 2026. He attended Lake County Training School and later served honorably in the United States Army

From March 13, 1951, to February 24, 1953, receiving an Honorable Discharge. Robert L. Nelams served his country with honor in the United States Army. We are grateful for his faithful service.

In 1953, Robert married Evelyn O'Neal. From this union, six children were born—six beautiful bundles of joy who became an important part of his life story.

Robert was a hardworking man who traveled seasonally for work, always staying busy and doing his best to provide for his family. Though small in stature, he had a strong and protective spirit, and his family knew he cared deeply for them.

When he was home between seasons, Robert treasured special moments with his children. One cherished memory remembered by his family was taking his daughter shopping at Ezell's—a store that no longer exists—so she could participate in a parade. He proudly bought her a white dress, gloves, and shoes, delighted to see her all dressed up and ready to ride on the float. These moments reflected the quiet pride and love he carried as a father.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Etta B. Hooks; his daughter, Angela Nelams; and his son, Robert G. Nelams.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice M. Chapple (Bernard) of Fleming Island, Florida; his sons, Stanley Nelams and Tyrone Nelams of Leesburg, Florida; and his daughter, Sonja Gail Parham of Ocala, Florida. He is also survived by his brothers, Willie Hooks of Wildwood, Florida, and Ivory Hooks of Leesburg, Florida; his sisters, Savannah of Orlando, Florida, and Vern of Miami, Florida; along with a host of Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Gone from our sight, but never from our heart.

And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."
