Mary Helen Thomas Calhoun, affectionately known as Mother Mary, was born on April 10, 1950, in Nedawah, Alabama, to Emma Lou (Thomas) George and the late Charlie McReany. She departed this life on April 18, 2026, in Wildwood, FL.
Mary was a cherished member of the Bible Church of God in Wildwood, FL, where she served faithfully on the finance committee under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Erving. Her dedication to her church and her community was evident in the love and friendships she cultivated throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roosevelt Calhoun, her father, Tom George, her daughter, Gretta Thomas, and her grandsons, Leon F. Gwinn and Arvin Thomas.
Mary leaves behind a loving family, including her mother, Emma L. George of Mobile, AL; her daughter, Brenda Martin of Phoenix City, AL; her sons, Antonio (Holly) of New Port News, VA, and Thomas and Leon F. Thomas of Tampa, FL. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Larry Calhoun of SC; her granddaughters, Ynwanda Maeket, Venus Cowans, Sherry Hall, Zadnekah Bradley, and Eloni Steele; her grandsons, Richard Tolliver, Jason Thomas, Frank Kane, Travis Kane, and Seth Thomas; and her devoted Goddaughter, Evone Jackson of Wildwood, FL. Mary also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Anderson-Hence Funeral Home Chapel in Wildwood, FL. Following the service, a repast will be held at the Bible Church of God, and interment will take place at the Wildwood Community Cemetery.
