Dr. Laurie Anne Newkirk, born on May 21, 1967, in El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at her home in The Villages, Florida. She was the beloved daughter of Mrs. Charlene Newkirk and the late Mr. Rogene E. Newkirk.

Laurie accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Springfield Baptist Church. She was an active member throughout her life, contributing to the church community in various roles. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she continued her religious commitment as a member of the Church Without Walls in Florida.

Laurie was a brilliant scholar, graduating from Garnor Senior High School in 1985 and earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University the same year. She later obtained a Master's Degree in Management and a Doctor of Education from Florida Southern College in 2025.

Her career was marked by dedication and excellence, beginning at Northern Telecom and spanning roles at Progress Energy, AmeriGas, Withlacoochee Technical College, Lake Tech College, and Quality Labor Management. Her final role was as Operations Manager for Habitat for Humanity.

Laurie was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta and was known for her intelligence, kindness, and compassion. She is survived by her son, Roman Usher Newkirk, her mother, siblings, extended family, and many friends who will cherish her memory.
