Obituary

Bernice Caruthers Potter, born on October 8, 1923, in Coleman, FL, was a beloved member of her community and family. She attended Dunklin Elementary School and was known for her skills as a basketball player, bringing joy to her family and friends who watched her games. A devout member of the Greater Mt. Olive A.M.E Church from the age of thirteen, Bernice served on the Usher Board and was cherished for her recitations of poetry during Sunday services.

Bernice worked as a field worker before finding employment at the 76 Restaurant on I-75 in Wildwood, where she worked for many years until her retirement. She was married to Jack Potter in 1948, and together they had four children. She is predeceased by her children Floyd Caruthers, Jack Potter, and Robert Caruthers.

Bernice leaves behind a devoted daughter, Marva, who lived close by and cared for her, as well as six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two great granddaughters. She also leaves a special niece, Karmela Colbert, a special nephew, Robert Potter, and many other nieces, nephews, and friends. Her family extends their gratitude to the Villages Rehabilitation Nursing Center and her favorite nurse, Amanda Johnson, for their care.
